Curriculum for Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2)
The current National Curriculum for all schools came into effect September 2014.
In order to maintain breadth and balance we use an integrated topic approach, which covers all areas of the curriculum and aspects of the National Curriculum. Activities are matched to the ability level and interests of children. A variety of teaching methods are used, working with individuals, small groups and whole class groups where appropriate. Teachers’ planning is based on a Creative Curriculum which integrates all the subjects under a broad topic heading ensuring the links are clear, and that the learning is knowledge and skills based and has relevance to the children. It also has to be fun.
The phonics scheme used in school is called Letters and Sounds. Please click here for further information.
